The Rules

I've been a member of 43 Things for a while now, I found it two years ago when researching お弁当箱 (bento boxes). Anywho, it's really interesting, I used it for a while to keep track of goals I had (and actually accomplished something!), but it's a lot of fun to browse other peoples' goals.

Case in point, one of the more intriguing ones I came upon was the resolution to take a single picture every day for an entire year. I love taking pictures (anyone who's heard me complain about my lack of hard drive space to hold all my photos can attest to this), and this seemed like an excellent way to try and force some good photos. Like NaNoWriMo, but more photo-y. And thus, my blog is born.

Starting on January 1st, 2008, I will take a single picture every day, post it up here, and comment on it. A foray into some form of photoblogging, if you will. I should have really started this last summer with Japan, installation, and all those other good things, but I'm sure this will have its moments as well.

Here are my self-imposed rules:
  1. I will post one photo every day, barring difficult circumstances, perhaps no internet?
  2. No repeating of photo subjects within a week. That is, if I take a picture of a tree, no more tree pictures for the rest of the week, unless it's put into a different perspective, such as a bunch of people hanging out by a tree.
  3. All photos will be taken by me on my camera. I'm not touching up with The GIMP or anything. However, in circumstances where my photo of the day includes me in it, it can be taken by someone else, albeit still on my camera.
  4. I will give a short explanation of the photo. Don't expect there to be a huge dissertation of what it symbolizes or something - I don't spend $40,000 a year to learn how to do that crap.
  5. Comments are more than welcome (assuming anyone ever reads this). However, my word is final, artistic licensing and all that. These are my photos, I take them a particular way for a reason, and they represent my view on life.
  6. I won't be posting incriminating photos, so there shouldn't be anyone requesting me to take down certain ones. That being said, all photos were taken on my camera. As such, they are my property. Please don't beg me to take down something for silly reasons.
See you on January 1st!
